Cambodia Sets Justice Reform Priorities for 2026

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 26, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice has outlined priorities for reform this year, pledging faster case handling and tighter oversight of the judiciary.
Justice Minister Koeut Rith, also deputy prime minister, told a two day conference reviewing 2025 performance that legal and judicial reform remains central to strengthening the rule of law and supporting national development.
“The ministry is working to establish mechanisms for out of court dispute resolution, accelerate case handling in courts, and monitor irregularities within the judiciary,” he said.
Supreme Court President Chiv Keng stressed the need to evaluate law enforcement and judicial work, identify persistent challenges, and implement solutions for 2026.
Koeut Rith urged judges and prosecutors to uphold professional ethics, warning that neglecting standards could trigger disciplinary action.
The conference, held Mar. 25 26, reviewed past action plans and set directions to enhance the effectiveness of Cambodia’s justice system in the year ahead.
