PHNOM PENH, April 1, 2026 (KPT) — A Chinese citizen has been extradited from Cambodia following joint investigations into online fraud, the Ministry of Interior said Wednesday.

Li Xiong was detained after months of cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese law enforcement agencies.

His Cambodian nationality was revoked by royal decree on March 31 before the extradition, officials confirmed.

Authorities said the handover was made in response to a formal request from Beijing and reflects broader efforts to tackle transnational crime.

The case follows earlier extraditions of three other Chinese nationals, including businessman Chen Zhi, who was detained in January alongside Xu Ji Liang and Shao Ji Hui. Chen’s Cambodian citizenship was revoked in December.

Chen faces fraud and money laundering charges in the United States, accused of orchestrating internet scams from Cambodia that allegedly defrauded victims of billions of dollars in cryptocurrency.

Officials said the latest extradition underscores Cambodia’s commitment to international cooperation in combating online fraud, which has become a growing regional concern.
