Cambodia Urged to Join “Clean and Green” Drive to Tackle Pollution and Promote Sustainability

PHNOM PENH, April 1, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s environment minister has urged citizens and stakeholders to join nationwide efforts to promote cleanliness and sustainability, as the country pursues a long-term goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
Eang Sophalleth made the appeal during the Environmental Friends Encouragement Program on March 31 at the ministry headquarters, stressing policies built on three pillars: cleanliness, greenness and sustainability.
Education campaigns targeting students and youth aim to instill a “clean and green” mindset, encouraging reduced plastic use, better waste management and protection of natural resources.
Practical measures promoted by the ministry include proper waste disposal, safeguarding water sources, pollution prevention and actions to improve public health and livelihoods.
Central to the greenness agenda is the “Green Canopy” initiative, which promotes tree planting in public areas, forest restoration and free seedling distribution.
Sophalleth said the campaign seeks to expand green cover nationwide while strengthening cooperation against pollution and climate change.
The ministry described the program as part of a broader movement to foster community involvement in building a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Cambodia.
