ISTANBUL, April 20, 2026 (KPT) — The parliaments of Cambodia and Hungary have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening legislative cooperation, building on a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, officials said Monday.

The pledge was made during a meeting between Ouch Borith, first vice president of Cambodia’s Senate, and Márta Mátrai of Hungary’s National Assembly on April 19, on the sidelines of the Inter Parliamentary Union Assembly in Türkiye.

According to a Senate statement, the talks reflected longstanding friendship and highlighted the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy.

Borith stressed the importance of reinforcing the Cambodia Hungary parliamentary friendship group as a platform for regular exchanges of information, views and experience.

He reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working closely with Hungary to enhance institutional ties and support national development efforts.

Mátrai welcomed the cooperation framework, describing it as a solid foundation for deeper collaboration.

She noted that the MoU between the secretariats of both parliaments, signed in March, provides for experience sharing, study visits, professional dialogue and capacity building activities aimed at strengthening institutional effectiveness.

The reaffirmation underscored both countries’ determination to broaden bilateral relations through parliamentary diplomacy, while supporting wider cooperation in governance and development.

The agreement is expected to facilitate closer institutional exchanges and contribute to stronger ties between the two legislatures.

The meeting was part of Cambodia’s wider engagement at the IPU Assembly, where parliamentary diplomacy is increasingly seen as a tool to reinforce bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
