Cambodia Cabinet Endorses Long‑Term Mine Action Policy to 2035

PHNOM PENH, April 25, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Cabinet has approved a draft National Policy on Mine Action for 2026–2035, setting out a long‑term plan to clear landmines and other explosive remnants of war while expanding support for affected communities.
The framework, endorsed at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet on April 23, aims to complete clearance of all known landmine‑contaminated areas by 2030 and to eliminate cluster munitions and other priority explosive remnants by 2035.
Officials said the policy focuses on reducing residual risks, strengthening national capacity to manage unexploded ordnance, and delivering risk education tailored to evolving conditions.
Victim assistance is a central component, with pledges of more comprehensive and inclusive support.
The government stressed the importance of international cooperation to sustain progress, noting the new framework builds on the National Mine Action Strategy 2018–2025, which it says has been fully implemented.
The draft policy is intended to guide future planning in the sector, including the transition to managing residual risks once large‑scale clearance operations are completed.
It sets out a long‑term vision of a country free from the impact of explosive remnants of war, with improved livelihoods and strengthened peace and development.
