Media Groups and CSOs to Mark World Press Freedom Day in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH, April 29, 2026 (KPT) — More than 10 media organisations, civil society groups and development partners will convene a national conference on April 30 to mark World Press Freedom Day, reaffirming the importance of free expression in Cambodia.
Organisers said the full day event, themed “Fostering a Free and Responsible Media for Peace and Development,” will bring together over 150 participants, including journalists, content creators, civil society actors, youth, foreign missions and government representatives.

The conference aims to highlight the role of a free, independent and pluralistic media in advancing human rights, promoting good governance and supporting sustainable development.
It will also promote inclusive dialogue at national and local levels, with discussions expected to strengthen cooperation and generate recommendations to enhance journalist protection and create a more enabling environment.
The programme features three panel discussions on media legal frameworks, crisis reporting and the role of artificial intelligence in journalism. A new study on environmental journalism in Cambodia will also be launched, outlining challenges faced by reporters and areas for support.
Participants will review civil society recommendations on the Ministry of Information’s Prakas on Qualification and Journalistic Professionalism, alongside regional insights from the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, with a focus on Asia Pacific.
