PHNOM PENH, May 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s interior ministry on Monday accused Thai forces of failing to fully respect ceasefire commitments, saying unilateral actions since December 27, 2025 have undermined agreements reached under the General Border Committee.

The ministry reported that more than 610,000 people — about 95 percent of those displaced by border tensions — have returned to their homes, but 33,328 remain unable to do so, including women and children. Officials said the continued presence of Thai troops and construction activities along disputed areas had disrupted essential services and slowed recovery efforts.

Schools and health centers in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces remain closed, affecting local communities despite the large‑scale return of residents. The ministry urged Thailand to halt unilateral measures that it said violated Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called for both sides to resume border demarcation work through the Joint Boundary Commission in line with existing treaties.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully under international law and through diplomatic channels, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet. Officials stressed that restoring stability along the frontier is crucial to ensuring the safe return of all displaced populations and the resumption of normal livelihoods for affected communities.
