PHNOM PENH, May 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s 29‑party political alliance has voiced strong support for the government’s position to resolve border issues with Thailand peacefully, through international law and established mechanisms.

The endorsement was made Tuesday at a meeting chaired by CPP president Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the 7 January Palace.

Alliance member Nhek Bun Chhay of the Khmer National United Party said all parties backed the approach of non‑violence and negotiation, noting military solutions had failed to deliver lasting results.

“We support resolving issues with Thailand peacefully,” he said, adding that dialogue remained the preferred path.

Beehive Social Democratic Party leader Mam Sonando welcomed Prime Minister Hun Manet’s remarks, saying continued efforts for peace and welfare remained vital despite resource constraints.

He said multi‑party participation contributed to peacebuilding and national development through cooperation and mutual understanding.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen praised alliance members for unity in defending territorial integrity and supporting humanitarian efforts for displaced communities and military personnel.

He stressed sovereignty must be safeguarded under the multi‑party democratic system and reiterated that Cambodia’s territory belongs to all citizens.

He also emphasized internal unity, saying new political groups splitting from the alliance would not be encouraged to join.

CPP spokesman Chea Thyrith said the alliance meets annually to review cooperation, with a coordination committee convening quarterly under an eight‑point agreement signed in October 2023.

The alliance was established to promote unity in preserving peace, constitutional order, sovereignty and national development, while preventing extremist movements.

The meeting reaffirmed support for the government’s use of international legal and diplomatic mechanisms to resolve border issues with Thailand peacefully, underscoring what Hun Sen described as national unity in defending sovereignty and territorial integrity.
