PHNOM PENH, May 23, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodian authorities have convened a workshop to strengthen the capacity of labour inspectors in combating technology-based fraud and online scams affecting the labour and social security sectors.

The event, held Thursday at the Ministry of Labour headquarters in Phnom Penh, was chaired by Lim Suyhong on behalf of Labour and Vocational Training Minister Heng Sour.

Around 500 officials participated, either in person or via Zoom, including representatives from municipal and provincial labour departments.

The workshop focused on disseminating Cambodia’s Law on Combating Technology-Based Fraud and improving understanding of how online scams and digital fraud impact labour inspection, vocational training and social security systems.

Officials said the programme was jointly organised by the National Institute of Labour and the General Department of Prosecution and Criminal Affairs at the Ministry of Justice.

Among those attending were justice ministry officials Song Chovann and Nann Chanroeun, as well as Sun Sokhalida.

In opening remarks, Lim Suyhong noted that while technological progress had brought major benefits to society and the economy, it had also created opportunities for fraud and other criminal activities conducted through digital platforms and social media.

He stressed that labour inspectors and relevant officials needed stronger legal knowledge and enforcement skills to respond effectively to emerging forms of technology-based crime.

Participants were encouraged to share experiences and discuss enforcement practices to support the government’s efforts against online fraud.

Presentations on the law were delivered by Nann Chanroeun and Song Chovann, who outlined key provisions aimed at preventing and suppressing technology-related offences.
