NEW YORK, May 27, 2026 (KPT) – China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged the international community to reject the use of force and uphold the peaceful settlement of disputes during a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York.

Speaking at UN headquarters, Wang stressed that sovereignty and non‑interference must remain cornerstones of the international order amid rising instability and conflict.

“We must uphold sovereign equality and oppose interference in internal affairs,” he said. “We must uphold the peaceful settlement of disputes and oppose the use of force.”

Wang warned against attempts to glorify aggression and undermine the post‑Second World War international order.

“We must uphold the victorious outcome of the Second World War and oppose glorifying the history of aggression,” he added.

The foreign minister described the world as facing its most profound and complex changes since 1945, citing growing geopolitical tensions and what he called the resurgence of “the law of the jungle.”

These challenges, he said, were testing the international community’s commitment to safeguarding peace, upholding justice and pursuing reform.

“We must unite and take action to uphold, revitalise and strengthen the United Nations,” Wang declared.

He called for reforms to reinforce the UN Charter, enhance the authority and effectiveness of the Security Council, improve international development cooperation and strengthen the implementation capacity of global governance institutions.

Cambodia’s Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn also attended the debate.
