Child Protection, Anti-Labor Pledges Highlight Cambodia’s Welfare Push
PHNOM PENH, May 31, 2026 (KPT) — Authorities on Saturday reaffirmed commitments to strengthen child protection, eliminate child labor, and expand social welfare programs as part of efforts to build human capital and promote inclusive development.
In a message marking International Children’s Day, World Day Against Child Labour, and Cambodia Children’s Day 2026, Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored the government’s focus on safeguarding children’s rights, improving healthcare and education access, and supporting vulnerable families through social protection schemes.

Officials stressed that peace and stability remain essential to children’s welfare, while pledging to prevent violence, online exploitation, and the worst forms of child labor.
The statement highlighted ongoing initiatives to strengthen maternal and child healthcare, broaden equitable education, and provide targeted support for poor households through cash assistance, scholarships, and medical services.
Phnom Penh reiterated its “zero tolerance” stance on child labor and forced labor, citing stronger inspections, vocational training, youth skills development, and cooperation with the International Labour Organization and other partners.
Authorities also pointed to the “One Enterprise, One Harmonious Community” initiative, which promotes labor law compliance and bans the worst forms of child labor as part of responsible business practices.
The message called on ministries, local authorities, civil society, media, families, and communities to work together to strengthen child protection systems and ensure a safer environment for children.
