ASEAN leaders and Putin to discuss security and economic cooperation at Russia summit

PHNOM PENH, June 17, 2026 (KPT) — ASEAN leaders and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to discuss regional security, economic cooperation and the future of ASEAN–Russia relations at a summit in Kazan this week, Prime Minister Samdech
Thipadei Hun Manet’s spokesman said Wednesday.
Meas Sophorn, head of the Prime Minister’s Spokesperson Unit, told reporters Samdech
Thipadei is attending the ASEAN–Russia Commemorative Summit, which marks 35 years of dialogue relations between the bloc and Moscow.
He said the gathering would provide an opportunity for leaders to exchange views on regional and international developments and explore ways to deepen cooperation.
“The meeting will contribute to efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond,” Sophorn said.
He added that Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet would also hold bilateral meetings with foreign leaders to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
Samdech Thipadei departed Phnom Penh on Wednesday to lead a high‑level Cambodian delegation to the two‑day summit, held at Putin’s invitation.
The agenda is expected to cover trade, investment, connectivity, energy cooperation and regional security, alongside ways to advance the ASEAN–Russia Strategic Partnership.
The Cambodian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron, senior officials and private‑sector representatives.
Officials said the visit underscores Cambodia’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy and engagement with major powers.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and his delegation are scheduled to return to Cambodia on June 18.
