Cambodia and Myanmar Tourism Operators Join Forces to Boost Two‑Way Travel
YANGON, June 17, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Myanmar’s tourism industries have agreed to strengthen cooperation through joint promotions, familiarization trips, business forums and new travel packages aimed at increasing two‑way tourist flows, officials said Tuesday.
The commitment was made during talks between Cambodia’s Tourism Minister Huot Hak and leaders of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA), which represents around 1,000 tourism enterprises nationwide.

The meeting focused on implementing a recently signed memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation and translating it into concrete initiatives to boost arrivals and deepen private‑sector partnerships.
UMTA President U Kyaw Bohne Naing voiced strong interest in Cambodia’s offerings, including Angkor Archaeological Park, coastal destinations and religious tourism sites. He pledged to work closely with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and the Cambodia Tourism Board to expand promotional activities and strengthen exchanges between operators.
Both sides agreed to organize joint campaigns, FAM trips, B2B forums and new travel packages. They also discussed encouraging Myanmar hotel operators, agencies and investors to explore opportunities in Cambodia’s growing tourism sector.
Hak urged UMTA to promote Cambodian destinations through its extensive network and support visits by operators, journalists and influencers. He stressed the importance of improving air connectivity, particularly between Angkor and Myanmar’s historic Bagan region.
The stronger connectivity and closer private‑sector cooperation would help diversify markets and create sustainable growth. Cambodia welcomed 5.6 million international tourists in 2025, including 37,000 from Myanmar. More than 10,000 Myanmar visitors arrived in the first four months of 2026.
