PHNOM PENH, June 18, 2026 (KPT) — Senior Cambodian officials have pledged tougher enforcement of the country’s new law against technology‑based fraud, outlining measures to intensify the nationwide crackdown on online scam networks.

At a meeting on June 16 chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Koeut Rith and Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, authorities reviewed progress in implementing the Law on Combating Technology‑Based Fraud and assessed challenges facing prosecutors, courts and law enforcement agencies.

Officials discussed practical steps to strengthen investigations, prosecutions and judicial proceedings, stressing that more robust enforcement is needed to prevent large‑scale criminal groups from re‑establishing operations in Cambodia.

The initiative is part of Prime Minister Hun Manet’s priority policies under the seventh legislative mandate of the National Assembly.

The legislation was passed by parliament on March 30 and promulgated in April after Senate review. It introduces criminal penalties and new legal tools designed to deter and suppress technology‑based fraud, while reinforcing efforts to protect national security, public order and the economy.

Authorities said the law is central to the government’s campaign against online scams, which have drawn international concern, and reflects Phnom Penh’s determination to intensify its crackdown on transnational criminal networks.

Officials added that enforcement will be closely monitored to ensure the law delivers tangible results in safeguarding the public and strengthening Cambodia’s digital security environment.
