PREAH SIHANOUK, May 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia will not allow itself to become a safe haven for international criminals, Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith warned Tuesday, as the country launched a programme with global partners to strengthen cooperation against cybercrime and online scams.

Presiding over the opening in Sihanoukville, Sinarith said cybercriminals were increasingly exploiting digital platforms to conduct scams and human trafficking operations across borders.

He stressed that tackling such threats required closer collaboration, noting “almost all countries recognize this is a transnational issue that no country can solve alone.”

The three‑day course, running from May 19 to 21, brings together Cambodian law enforcement officers, judicial representatives and social affairs institutions with experts from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the European Union and South Korea’s Ministry of Justice.

Officials said the programme would improve understanding of international legal cooperation, digital evidence handling and victim protection in cross‑border investigations.

It also reflects Cambodia’s broader commitment to rule of law, human rights and accountability.

The government has identified the fight against online scams, cybercrime and trafficking as a national priority, introducing stricter enforcement measures in recent years.

Authorities praised international partners for providing technical and financial assistance, saying the initiative underscores the importance of global solidarity in combating transnational crime and safeguarding public security.
