Cambodia, Thailand to Continue Joint Removal of Heavy Weapons Along Border
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.07,2027) — Cambodia and Thailand will proceed with the second stage of a joint plan to remove heavy and destructive weapons and equipment from their shared border region on Nov. 8, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence announced Thursday.

The operation is part of the first phase of a three-stage disarmament effort agreed upon by military leaders from both countries. The plan was signed Oct. 31 by Lt. Gen. Pov Heng, commander of Cambodia’s Military Region 4, and Maj. Gen. Virakyuth Raksing, commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Area.
The first stage was completed Nov. 1 under the supervision of the ASEAN Observer Team, according to Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s defense ministry. She said both sides remain committed to implementing the plan with transparency and precision.

The agreement followed a special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand Regional Border Committee, held Oct. 31, where officials finalized a roadmap for the phased removal of military hardware. The initiative is aimed at easing tensions along the border and will continue through Nov. 21.
The ministry urged national and international media to take note of the developments.
