Cambodia Urges South Korea to Review Fighter Jet Sale to Thailand

PHNOM PENH, March 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s National Assembly has called on South Korea to reconsider the conditions of a planned fighter jet sale to Thailand, saying the move should safeguard regional peace and prevent potential aggression.
The request was raised during a meeting at the National Assembly Palace between First Vice President Cheam Yeap and Yoon Hu duk, chairman of the Korea–Cambodia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Yeap, representing Assembly President Khuon Sudary, said Cambodia remains committed to peaceful relations with Thailand but opposes any use of armed force against its territory.
He urged Seoul to ensure that any arms transfer would not contribute to instability. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and deepening cooperation under the Cambodia–Korea strategic partnership, which marks 55 years of diplomatic ties.
Cambodia also asked South Korea to accelerate construction of the Cambodia–Korea Friendship Bridge and expand opportunities for Cambodian workers and students.
Officials highlighted economic ties, noting more than 200 Korean companies operate in Cambodia.
The meeting concluded with pledges to enhance cooperation on investment, tourism and tackling transnational crime, while both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral relations.
