PHNOM PENH, Mar. 6, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s foreign minister has voiced concern over mounting instability in global geopolitics and the weakening of international governance systems.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, who also serves as foreign minister, said the world order was drifting away from its founding principles as competition among major powers deepens.

Speaking at the ministry’s annual review and planning session, attended by ambassadors and policy experts, Sokhonn warned that strategic rivalry was spreading across trade,

economics, technology and military industries, disrupting supply chains and accelerating competition in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and outer space.

He cited growing fragility in the Middle East, pointing to tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, and said escalating conflicts risked destabilizing markets and energy security.

Sokhonn cautioned that smaller nations were particularly vulnerable as the “rule of law” risked being replaced by the “law of power.”

The meeting, he said, aimed to help Cambodian diplomats craft strategies to safeguard national interests amid a shifting global landscape.
