PHNOM PENH, Mar. 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Thursday escorted foreign military attachés to the Preah Vihear Temple, saying the visit was intended to highlight damage it claims was caused by Thai military attacks.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, a ministry spokesperson, said delegations from 12 countries toured the UNESCO World Heritage Site and surrounding areas in Preah Vihear Province at around 11:10 local time.

The ministry said the temple and nearby heritage zones were “severely damaged” during two assaults involving heavy weapons, including aerial bombardments by drones and fighter jets.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts reported that assessments conducted between December 7 and 27, 2025 revealed greater destruction than previously recorded in July.

Officials said documentation carried out on December 28 identified 562 damaged locations within the temple complex.

The government stressed its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully, in line with international law, the UN Charter and the ASEAN Charter.

It said Cambodia opposes the use or threat of force and seeks a “just, impartial and lasting solution” to ensure stability and development for both countries.

Officials added that the visit and briefing were part of efforts to inform the public and international media of the situation.
