PHNOM PENH, Feb 18, 2026 (KPT) – Artificial intelligence has taken centre stage in Cambodia as senior officials joined a training session on its use, underscoring the government’s growing focus on technology to drive national development.

The course, organised by the Office of the Council of Ministers, covered the definition of AI, responsible use, prompt engineering and workplace applications. Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth attended alongside other senior officials.

Vissoth said his participation reflected confidence in technology’s role in public administration and socio economic growth.

He described AI as a potential driver of economic expansion over the next two decades, warning that Cambodia must invest in building capacity to adopt and apply existing technologies or risk falling behind.

He added that Cambodia should aim to “master AI” rather than simply use it, stressing that final decisions must remain with human judgment.

As a follow up, Vissoth announced the creation of an AI steering group within the Council of Ministers to integrate the technology into daily operations and expand training for officials.
