Cambodia Vows Firm Response After Thai Troops Cross Border, Block Road in Pursat

PHNOM PENH, Feb 8, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia warned it “will not remain silent” after Thai troops crossed into its territory and blocked a key road in Pursat province, in what Phnom Penh described as a violation of sovereignty.

Government spokesman Pen Bona said the Royal Government was taking “continuous and coordinated” measures to protect its territorial integrity and citizens affected by Thai actions. “This sends a clear message to the Thai side that Cambodia’s territory cannot be violated,” he said in a statement issued Feb. 7.

Cambodian authorities reported that Thai forces placed shipping containers across National Road No. 55 in Thma Da commune, Veal Veng district, following earlier installations of barbed wire in the same area. Officials said the move amounted to a seizure of Cambodian land and a breach of bilateral agreements and international law.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed Cambodia had lodged multiple protest letters against what it called “aggressive actions” by the Thai military. Earlier this week, Phnom Penh had already objected to the placement of three containers near the border.

Bona added that regional and international communities were closely monitoring the situation and backing efforts to ensure ceasefire commitments and agreements between the two countries are respected.
