More Than 5,000 Displaced Civilians Return as Cambodia Reaffirms Peaceful Border Resolution

PHNOM PENH, Feb 6, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior said Friday that about 86 percent of more than 640,000 displaced people have returned home since a ceasefire took effect on December 27, 2025.

In its latest update covering February 5–6, the ministry reported that 5,453 people had recently reintegrated, bringing the total to around 560,000 returnees. Some 90,037 people — including women and children — remain in displacement camps and continue to receive assistance.

Authorities said 48 schools and 22 health facilities in Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces remain temporarily closed, as local administrations work to restore livelihoods and public services. Since early December, nearly 1,000 houses and dozens of public buildings, roads, bridges, pagodas and utilities have been damaged, with assessments ongoing.

While armed clashes have ceased, the ministry reiterated concerns over actions affecting sovereignty and reaffirmed Cambodia’s stance that border issues must be resolved peacefully and in line with international law.

The government called on ASEAN, the United Nations and international partners to support a law based solution, and urged citizens to remain united during recovery.
