Cambodia’s EV Fleet Nears 13,000 as Government Ramps Up Charging Drive
PHNOM PENH, Feb 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s electric vehicle fleet has surged to nearly 13,000 units, with officials pledging stronger policy support and investment in charging infrastructure to sustain the momentum.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport said 12,968 EVs were registered nationwide by the end of 2025, including 9,065 cars, 3,203 motorcycles and 700 three-wheelers. The figures reflect rising public interest in cleaner transport options amid global efforts to cut emissions.

Spokesman Phan Rim said EV development offered benefits across environmental protection, energy security and economic efficiency, aligning Cambodia with regional and international trends.
He noted the National Policy on Electric Vehicle Development 2024–2030 provides the strategic framework for expansion, while overall vehicle usage continues to rise.
To accelerate adoption, the Electricity Authority of Cambodia has urged licensed providers to invest in charging stations, aiming to build the infrastructure needed to support wider use.
Officials say the push is designed to broaden transport choices for citizens and businesses, while positioning Cambodia to capture opportunities in the fast-growing EV sector.
