PHNOM PENH, Feb 5, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Interior Ministry said Thursday that nearly 550,000 people displaced by recent border clashes with Thailand have returned home, marking significant progress in post-ceasefire recovery.

The ministry reported that 2,388 people went back between February 4 and 5, leaving 95,474 still in camps, including almost 50,000 women and more than 30,000 children.

While reintegration continues, services remain disrupted in several provinces. Oddar Meanchey still has 14 schools and seven health facilities closed, Banteay Meanchey reports five schools and one clinic suspended, and Preah Vihear counts 29 schools and 14 health facilities out of operation.

Authorities said local administrations, working with national ministries, are restoring livelihoods and public services while supporting those unable to return. The ministry also cited extensive damage since December 7, including nearly 1,000 homes, schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, pagodas, markets, telecom towers, and water and electricity facilities.

Reaffirming its stance, the government said Cambodia will not compromise sovereignty and will pursue border resolution through peaceful means under international law.

It urged ASEAN, the UN and the wider international community to back a law-based settlement, while calling on citizens to remain united and resist misinformation.
