Cambodia Underscores ASEAN Unity during Bilateral Talks in Cebu

PHNOM PENH, January 30, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokkhonn held a series of bilateral meetings with ASEAN counterparts on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Cebu, the Philippines.

Sokkhonn reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to ASEAN unity and regional cooperation during talks with ministers from Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Laos.

On January 29, he met Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties and regional issues of shared concern.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with current cooperation and agreed to explore new areas, while preparing for Sokkhonn’s planned visit to Singapore in the first quarter of this year.

In separate talks with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono, the two agreed to co chair the sixth meeting of the Cambodia–Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation later this year, and exchanged views on regional and global developments.

Sokkhonn also met Philippine Foreign Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, congratulating her on the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship and expressing confidence in her leadership.

The two ministers discussed initiatives to strengthen cooperation, building on their December meeting in Malaysia.

In an informal meeting with Laos’ Foreign Minister Thongsavan Phomvihane, both sides highlighted their longstanding friendship and agreed to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026 with joint commemorative activities.

Across the meetings, Sokkhonn and his counterparts underscored ASEAN solidarity and their shared commitment to regional peace and stability.
