Forbes Lists Angkor Empire Marathon Among World’s Must-Travel Races for 2026
PHNOM PENH, Jan 24, 2026 (KPT) — Forbes magazine has named Cambodia’s Angkor Empire Marathon among its “12 Marathons Worth Traveling for in 2026,” spotlighting the race as a rare blend of endurance sport, cultural heritage and travel experience.
Curated by Forbes Travel Guide, the list highlights bucket-list races that combine world-class courses with exceptional hospitality. The Angkor Empire Marathon stood out for offering runners the unique chance to compete inside a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Held annually in Siem Reap, the event takes participants through forest rice fields, traditional villages and past more than 40 ancient temples, with Angkor Wat — the world’s largest religious monument — as its centerpiece.
The marathon’s 10th edition in August 2025 drew over 4,500 runners. Its 11th edition, set for August 2, 2026, will again welcome international participants across four categories: the 42 km full marathon, 21 km half marathon, 10 km race and a 3 km fun run.
Forbes’ list also features iconic races such as the Boston Marathon, Big Sur International Marathon, TCS London Marathon, Great Wall Marathon, Chicago Marathon and New York Marathon.
The recognition places Cambodia alongside some of the world’s most prestigious marathon destinations, underscoring Angkor’s growing appeal as a hub for international sports tourism.
