SIEM REAP, Cambodia (Jan. 5, 2026) — American actress Annalynne McCord has called on the international community to stand with Cambodia as the kingdom faces mounting humanitarian challenges along its border with Thailand, where tens of thousands of civilians remain displaced.

Speaking during her visit to Angkor Wat Temple, McCord delivered an emotional appeal for unity, compassion and peace. “I may be American, but my heart is Cambodian. I love Cambodia,” she said. “In my heart, Cambodia is peace. I am asking the world to stand with Cambodia — unity, compassion and peace. Khmer people are resilient, strong and beautiful. They have been through so much.”

Her remarks come as more than 1,000 families from Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages in Ou Chrov District remain unable to return home after Thai troops allegedly sealed access roads with shipping containers and barbed wire, according to local authorities.

Officials said large sections of both villages were nearly destroyed by earlier airstrikes and artillery shelling, leaving homes, schools, markets and infrastructure in ruins. Despite a ceasefire signed Dec. 27, 2025, authorities say Thai forces continue to restrict civilian access.

Cambodia’s Interior Ministry has accused Thai troops of maintaining illegal military presence inside Cambodian territory and looting property in Pursat Province. Officials report more than 242,000 civilians remain in displacement camps, while over 323 houses and public facilities have been damaged or destroyed.
