Cambodian Citizen Praises Malaysia, US and China for Role in Ceasefire Efforts

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.30,2025) — A Cambodian citizen has issued a public message of appreciation to the governments of Malaysia, the United States and China, praising their roles in mediating recent ceasefire agreements aimed at reducing conflict in the country.
In an open letter, political science expert Kin Phea expressed gratitude for what he described as the “decisive and cooperative” involvement of the three countries in securing a ceasefire on July 28, 2025, the Kuala Lumpur Peace Deal signed Oct. 26, 2025, and another ceasefire announced Dec. 27, 2025.
The letter highlighted Malaysia’s leadership within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, describing its role as a neutral mediator and host as an example of regional cooperation.
The United States was credited for its active diplomatic engagement and efforts to bring all parties into negotiations, with the letter stating that U.S. influence played a key role in turning discussions into a concrete agreement.
China’s involvement was also acknowledged, with praise for what was described as its constructive support and efforts to maintain communication and build trust between opposing sides.
While welcoming the ceasefire agreements as an important step forward, the letter warned that the situation on the ground remains fragile. It noted that many Cambodians displaced by the fighting are still too fearful to return home, underscoring the challenges of translating ceasefire commitments into lasting security.
The letter called on Malaysia, the United States and China to continue their engagement to help ensure durable peace, enabling displaced families to return safely and rebuild their lives.
The message concluded with an appeal for sustained international support, expressing hope that continued mediation would allow fear to give way to long-term stability.
