Cambodia, Thailand Agree on Steps to Consolidate Ceasefire, Restore Relations

KUNMING, China (Dec. 29, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand have agreed on a series of measures to consolidate their ceasefire, restore exchanges, rebuild political trust and improve long term relations, following trilateral talks with China in Yunnan province.

The Dec. 28–29 meeting at Fuxian Lake brought together Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

Officials said the resulting joint statement serves the long term interests of both peoples and sends a positive signal for regional peace and stability.

Key outcomes included commitments to fully implement the ceasefire agreement, resume survey and demarcation work along sensitive border segments, and restore communication and cooperation.

China pledged support through military contacts, humanitarian de mining, and assistance to the ASEAN Observer Team.

Cambodia and Thailand also agreed to strengthen diplomatic engagement, promote contact between their foreign ministers, and create a positive environment ahead of the Fifth Lancang Mekong Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting in Thailand.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and cooperating against shared risks, including transboundary crimes such as telecom and online scams.

China said it will continue to provide humanitarian aid to displaced people in border areas and offer platforms for dialogue to help rebuild trust. Cambodian officials praised Beijing’s “active and constructive” role in supporting the ceasefire, while Thai leaders described China’s mediation as “constructive” and a fresh starting point for bilateral relations.

The trilateral talks underscored what participants called the “Asian way” of resolving disputes through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect, with all sides pledging to advance a just and lasting peace along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
