China’s Ambassador Says Peace Is Shared Goal of Cambodian and Thai People

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.29,2025) — China’s ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, said peace is a shared aspiration of the people of both Cambodia and Thailand and remains a consistent objective of China.
Wang said Beijing welcomed the cease-fire announced by Cambodia and Thailand and would continue to play what he described as a “positive and constructive role” in strengthening the truce, rebuilding mutual trust and supporting efforts toward lasting peace.
His remarks came as China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held talks in Yunnan province with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand.
Military representatives from all three countries also took part in the discussions.
China has said it supports dialogue and cooperation between Phnom Penh and Bangkok as part of broader efforts to maintain stability and security in the region.
Wang Yi said Beijing will continue to support efforts to rebuild peace between Cambodia and Thailand and is willing to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by the conflict in both countries, according to a statement released by the Chinese side.
He said China, as a neighbor and friend to both Cambodia and Thailand, hopes to see the two countries restore friendly relations and avoid further conflict. Wang added that dialogue on an equal footing could help overcome remaining challenges.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said he attaches great importance to the traditional solidarity and longstanding friendship underpinning relations between Cambodia and China.
He praised the steady progress of bilateral cooperation, particularly frequent exchanges at all levels and across all sectors.
Prak also expressed appreciation for China’s role in supporting the cease-fire between Cambodia and Thailand. He said China’s continued support for resolving differences through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect is vital to fully implementing the truce and advancing a just and lasting peace.
According to the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh, Beijing has decided to provide 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) in emergency humanitarian aid to Cambodia to help civilians displaced by the border conflict.
On Dec. 28, the first batch of Chinese aid arrived in Cambodia, including tents, blankets and food. Officials said the supplies are expected to provide timely assistance to those affected by the conflict and help improve living conditions.
