PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 4, 2025) — The World Bank will provide $260 million in financing to Cambodia in 2026 as both sides move to expand long-term development cooperation.

Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth, minister of economy and finance, praised the partnership, citing the Bank’s continued support in education, health, energy, infrastructure and reforms aimed at boosting resilience, diversification, competitiveness and job creation.

The announcement followed a meeting with Mariam J. Sherman, World Bank country director for Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Sherman reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment under the 2025–2029 Country Partnership Framework, which aligns with Cambodia’s Vision 2050. She said the Bank is preparing a new analytical assessment to help the government design targeted policies to spur growth and expand employment.

Amid global economic uncertainty, including protectionist trade policies and Cambodia–Thailand border tensions, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in several areas.

Priorities include strengthening the financial sector through safety-net programs, enhancing social protection systems, encouraging private-sector participation in energy, and advancing connectivity and human capital development. The planned financing package is expected to reinforce Cambodia’s long-term development goals.
