Cambodia, China Lawmakers Plan Deeper Cooperation, Tourism Push
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov. 28, 2025) — Cambodia and China reaffirmed plans to deepen parliamentary cooperation and expand tourism exchanges during a meeting Thursday between National Assembly President Samdech Khuon Sudary and Hon. Jiancan, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of the Xizang Autonomous Region of China.

Both sides pledged to advance activities under the Cambodia–China Tourism Year 2025 and strengthen collaboration through the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding on Parliamentary Cooperation.
Khuon Sudary said the agreement has broadened ties between the two legislatures and their Secretariat-Generals, while repeated exchanges have reinforced the “ironclad” friendship and the Joint Statement on building an All-Weather Cambodia–China Community with a Shared Future.
She emphasized that Cambodia–China relations continue to flourish under the leadership of Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Chinese President Xi Jinping through the Diamond Cooperation Framework and the 2024–2028 Action Plan.
Khuon Sudary also praised China’s role in facilitating the “Tea Chat Dialogue” with Cambodia and Thailand in August, which she said helped ease border tensions and support the ceasefire agreement.
She voiced hope that China would continue serving as a balanced mediator in promoting peace, stability, and respect for international law.
Reiterating Cambodia’s adherence to the One-China policy, she reaffirmed support for China’s positions on Hong Kong, Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Xizang, while thanking Beijing for backing the Funan Techo Canal Project — a key initiative for regional connectivity and economic resilience.
As part of the Tourism Year, she encouraged greater travel and people-to-people exchanges, urging China to boost tourist flows to Cambodia and expand opportunities for Cambodians to visit China for business, education, and medical services.
Jiancan reaffirmed the strength of the Cambodia–China comprehensive strategic partnership, citing political trust, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation.
He briefed Khuon Sudary on Xizang’s development in human capital, green energy, and infrastructure, and underscored its role as the “Source of Water of Asia,”
highlighting opportunities for cooperation in ecological governance and infrastructure.
Before concluding, Jiancan invited Khuon Sudary to make an official visit to Xizang, saying that “hearing a hundred times is not equal to seeing once.”
