PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.20, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of Information has cautioned social media users and citizen journalists against reposting outdated or manipulated content related to incidents along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The ministry said old photos and videos — including some previously flagged as fake — have resurfaced online with altered dates, creating the false impression that events are ongoing. Officials warned the practice has fueled confusion, disrupted social order, and eroded trust in media institutions.

In a statement, the ministry called the circulation of misleading material a breach of professional ethics and said it could affect peace, security, and government efforts to resolve border issues with Thailand.

The ministry outlined guidelines for online users, urging them to stop sharing old or misleading border-related material, verify sources with official channels, and avoid content that could incite unrest or harm national security. It also prohibited posting military information, including troop numbers, equipment, or locations.

Authorities reminded users that disseminating restricted information could carry legal consequences and encouraged reliance on official statements from national leaders, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Information, and other relevant agencies.

The statement concluded by urging content creators to support government efforts to maintain accurate information flows and social stability.
