PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.30, 2025) — Cambodia earned $132 million from fresh banana exports in the first nine months of 2025, a 20.56% increase compared to the same period last year, when revenue totaled $110 million, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Khim Finan, spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said the growth was driven by rising international demand, especially from China and Japan.

Heng Davy, general manager of Long Sreng Banana Plantation in Stung Treng province, said the company exports primarily to those two markets. The plantation harvests between 6,000 and 7,000 banana bunches daily, packing at least three containers per day and up to 10 during peak demand.

Cambodia first began exporting bananas to China in 2019, after the two countries signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements in August 2018. The agreement allowed Cambodian bananas to meet China’s import standards, paving the way for large-scale trade.

In 2024, Cambodia earned more than $138 million from banana exports, a drop of over 11% from 2023.

The country has more than 16,000 hectares of banana plantations, with over 11,000 hectares currently in harvest. Major growing provinces include Ratanakiri, Kratie, Stung Treng, Kampot, Kampong Cham and Kampong Speu.
