PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.16, 2025) — Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Huot Hak said peace is essential for the growth of the country’s tourism sector, emphasizing that “without peace, there can be no tourism.”

Hak made the remarks during a special lecture on “Cambodia’s Tourism Potential and Regional Competitiveness” at the Royal School of Administration, addressing faculty, students, and government officials. The event drew 978 participants, including 242 in person and 736 online via Microsoft Teams.

He highlighted the enduring value of Cambodia’s cultural heritage, natural resources, and sacred landscapes, urging citizens to actively protect and promote the nation’s legacy both domestically and abroad.

“Cambodia needs peace to develop a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism industry,” Hak said.

The lecture was attended by Sung Winthi, Deputy Director of the Royal School of Administration, representing Permanent Secretary of State Yuk Bunna.

Earlier this month, Cambodia launched operations at the new 4F-class Techo International Airport, designed to attract more domestic and international travelers.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Cambodia welcomed 3.71 million international visitors in the first seven months of 2025, down 8 percent from the same period last year. Thailand led foreign arrivals, followed by Vietnam and China.
