PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.15, 2025) — Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam reached more than $5.58 billion from January to August 2025, marking a 6.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from Cambodia’s General Department of Customs and Excise.

Cambodia’s exports to Vietnam totaled $2.74 billion, up 11.5%, while imports from Vietnam reached $2.84 billion, a 2.6% rise year-on-year.

Key Cambodian exports included rice, rubber, cassava, bananas, corn, mangoes and tobacco. Vietnam’s exports to Cambodia consisted of construction materials, machinery, fuel, electronics, fertilizers, spices and fresh produce.

Lor Vichet, vice president of the Cambodia-China Commerce Association, attributed the growth to shifting economic dynamics driven by geopolitical tensions between the United States and China. He said Vietnam’s expanding economy has increased demand for Cambodian agricultural products.

“Vietnam is now sourcing more from Cambodia rather than relying solely on domestic production,” Vichet said.

Secretary of State for the Ministry of Commerce, Samheng Bora, described Cambodia-Vietnam trade as “deepening and multidimensional,” supported by ASEAN frameworks and a bilateral coordination agreement signed every two years.

In 2024, total trade between the two countries reached $7.78 billion, up 18.2% from 2023.
