PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 12, 2025) — The United States remained Cambodia’s largest export market in 2025, with shipments totaling more than $8 billion from January to August, a 23.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

Total bilateral trade between the two countries reached $8.5 billion during the eight-month period, up 23.6% year-on-year. Cambodian exports accounted for the bulk of the trade, while U.S. imports to Cambodia totaled $243 million, a 39.8% increase.

Cambodia’s key exports to the U.S. included garments, travel goods, bicycles, and various consumer products. In return, the U.S. shipped automobiles, machinery, jewelry, cosmetics, electronics, and household items to Cambodia.

Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, said the U.S. recently imposed a 19% tariff on Cambodian goods effective August 1, 2025. He noted that the rate would enhance Cambodia’s competitiveness with neighboring countries, help sustain existing factories, and attract further investment.

“Cambodia will continue negotiations with the U.S. on priority sectors such as garments, apparel, and footwear,” Sun said. “These products are not manufactured in the U.S., so there’s no competition with American companies. We will work to lower the tariff below 19%.”

In 2024, Cambodia–U.S. trade exceeded $10 billion, up 11% from 2023. Cambodian exports reached $9.91 billion, a 11.4% increase, while U.S. imports to Cambodia totaled $264 million, up 2%.
