Cambodia’s Top Banks Join Global Green Finance Alliance
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept. 9, 2025) — BRED Bank Cambodia and KB PRASAC Bank have joined the Alliance for Green Commercial Banks, a global initiative led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. The two banks are among 20 inaugural members representing more than $5.6 trillion in assets.

The Alliance aims to accelerate sustainable banking practices in emerging markets by providing access to advisory services and financing for climate-related solutions across sectors including energy, transport, agriculture and urban development.
“This inaugural cohort reflects the increasing commitment and leadership of commercial banks in green finance,” said Allen Forlemu, IFC regional industry director for the Financial Institutions Group in Asia Pacific. “The Alliance is more than a network—it is a community of committed institutions working together to transform finance, close the multi-trillion-dollar climate finance gap, and position emerging markets at the forefront of sustainable economic growth.”
The founding members span eight markets: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and BNP Paribas. The Alliance’s work in Asia is anchored by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, with Bank of China (Hong Kong), Citi, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC and Standard Chartered serving as Cornerstone Banks.
Knowledge partners—including CDP, CFA Institute, Convergence Blended Finance, Climate Capital Asia, Renewables Academy and the United Nations Environment Program—support the Alliance with expertise and market insights.
The initiative is designed as an invitation-only platform that fosters peer-to-peer learning, thought leadership and collaboration among commercial banks and global financial institutions to advance green finance in developing economies. The move signals a growing momentum in Cambodia’s financial sector toward integrating global best practices in sustainable banking and climate resilience.
