ASEAN Chair: Anwar Ibrahim Discusses Thailand-Cambodia Conflict with Marcos
(Kuala Lumpur) — Sept. 9, 2025 — Anwar Ibrahim, the ASEAN Chair in 2025 and Prime Minister of Malaysia, spoke by phone with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia conflict.

The conversation took place while Marcos was on an official state visit to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
“We discussed the development of the Thailand-Cambodia conflict and the joint efforts to be made as part of our ongoing commitment to regional peace and stability,” Anwar said on Facebook.
He emphasized that their discussions also covered regional security, economic development, and the need to strengthen ASEAN unity and cohesion in light of current geopolitical challenges.
Anwar added that in their phone conversation, they explored ways to bolster bilateral relations and enhance regional cooperation within the ASEAN framework.
Marcos and his wife, Louise Araneta-Marcos, arrived in Phnom Penh on Sept. 7 for a three-day state visit, scheduled from Sept. 7–9, at the invitation of King Norodom Sihamoni.
