Deputy Prime Minister Leads Diplomatic Mission to Border Provinces
Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, who also serves as foreign minister, led a diplomatic delegation to Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey provinces on Aug. 22–23. The delegation included more than 60 representatives from the diplomatic corps, United Nations agencies, international organizations and foreign NGOs focused on humanitarian mine action.

In Banteay Meanchey, the delegation visited areas where Thai military forces had erected barbed wire and barricades, preventing residents from returning to their homes. In Oddar Meanchey, the group inspected bomb sites, including Wat Prasat Tamone Sen Chey and the MK-84 blast site in Thmor Doun village.

Prak reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to alleviating the hardships of displaced families and ensuring their safe return. He emphasized Cambodia’s determination to fully implement the ceasefire agreement and restore peace and stability along the border.

“The full implementation of the ceasefire agreement remains a crucial step toward lasting peace and a peaceful resolution of the border issue,” the delegation stated.

International Support for Ceasefire Implementation

MoFAIC welcomed statements made by members of the diplomatic corps during the visit to Oddar Meanchey on Aug. 22, calling for the full and unconditional enforcement of the ceasefire agreement.

Japanese Ambassador Ueno Atsushi said Japan “firmly supports the unconditional prompt ceasefire” and expressed readiness to assist affected communities. “We hope this issue will be resolved through peaceful dialogue between the two countries, not by fighting,” he told reporters.

Bridgette Walker, chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, said it was “very helpful for us to have eyes on the actual areas.” She added that President Trump and Secretary Rubio “are very interested in seeing the ceasefire hold” and have spoken with both governments to encourage full compliance.

Koen Everaert, first secretary and deputy head of cooperation at the EU Delegation to Cambodia, said the European Union “encourages both sides to continue to hold the ceasefire agreements, as well as continued good communication from both countries in order to rebuild trust and stability in the border.”

Cambodia Reaffirms Ceasefire Commitments
MoFAIC recalled that during a briefing held at the ministry on Aug. 21, attended by 78 representatives of diplomatic missions, UN agencies and NGOs, Prak reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the 13-point outcomes of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee meeting held Aug. 7 in Kuala Lumpur.

The Royal Government continues to pursue peaceful resolution and full implementation of the ceasefire agreement as a foundation for long-term stability and regional cooperation.
