Three Cambodian Financial Institutions Chosen for ADB Climate Program
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Aug. 18, 2025) — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced the selection of three Cambodian financial institutions for the inaugural cohort of its Climate Bank Accelerator (CBA) Program, aimed at strengthening climate finance and sustainability practices in the country’s banking sector.

AMK Microfinance Institution PLC, Foreign Trade Bank of Cambodia PLC, and Maybank (Cambodia) PLC were chosen following an open call for expressions of interest. ADB said the institutions were selected based on their commitment to sustainability, institutional readiness, alignment with green finance goals, and capacity for innovation.
“We are excited to partner with some of Cambodia’s leading financial institutions to drive sustainable finance and support the transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient economy,” said Jyotsana Varma, ADB Country Director for Cambodia. She thanked the Association of Banks in Cambodia and the National Bank of Cambodia for their support, noting that green finance is a key priority under ADB’s Cambodia Country Partnership Strategy 2024–2028.

The CBA Program supports national efforts to green the financial industry, including the development of Cambodia’s Sustainable Finance Roadmap and the implementation of its Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, led by the National Bank of Cambodia.
The program will now enter its advisory phase, focusing on building institutional capacity to scale climate finance, develop green financial products, and improve climate risk assessment and emissions disclosure.
AMK CEO Kea Borann said the program aligns with the institution’s mission to help clients adapt to climate change. “We are honored to be selected and excited to lead the growth of climate finance in Cambodia,” he said.
Foreign Trade Bank CEO Dith Sochal called the partnership a strategic step toward becoming Cambodia’s leading green bank. “Together, we can turn climate ambition into actionable, bankable solutions,” he said.

Maybank Cambodia CEO Rath Sophoan said the initiative will help channel capital into climate-positive projects. “It strengthens our sustainability commitment and supports Cambodia’s green transition,” he said.
ADB said the program will also include training modules for member banks of the Association of Banks in Cambodia through 2026 to promote cross-sector collaboration and knowledge sharing.
