PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — On Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, the Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia coordinated the deployment of the Interim Observer Team (IOT), led by Colonel Nazlee Bin Abdul Rahim, Defence Attaché of Malaysia to Cambodia. The team comprises seven representatives from six ASEAN countries—Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Vietnam—both resident and non-resident.

The observers departed for designated sites to assess the border security situation firsthand in areas directly affected by the recent Cambodia–Thailand border conflict. The mission includes visits to:

  1. Battambang Province (Military Region 5)
  2. Banteay Meanchey Province – Poipet International Border Checkpoint, O’ Bei Choan Border Checkpoint (ChokChey Village), and Boeung Trakoun Border Checkpoint
  3. Preah Vihear Province – An Ses Border Checkpoint

This deployment follows the outcomes of the Special Meeting held on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia, and the Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) concluded on Aug. 7, 2025, which reaffirmed the importance of the IOT mission.

The Ministry of National Defence reiterated its unwavering commitment to upholding the ceasefire agreement and reaffirmed its adherence to international law, peaceful dispute resolution, and the protection of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
