PHNOM PENH, April 2, 2026 (KPT) – China has welcomed Cambodia’s newly adopted law on combating cybercrime, pledging closer cooperation to tackle online crime and support the country’s development, officials said Thursday.

The remarks were made by Wang Wenbin, China’s ambassador to Cambodia, during a courtesy call and New Year meeting with National Assembly President Khuon Sudary.

“China warmly congratulates the Law on Combating Cybercrime recently adopted by the Cambodian National Assembly,” Wang said, adding that Beijing would work with Phnom Penh to eliminate online crime originating from Cambodian territory.

He also reaffirmed China’s commitment to safeguarding Cambodia’s sovereignty and supporting strategic projects.

Wang expressed confidence in Cambodia’s future under Prime Minister Hun Manet, citing national unity and development potential.

He highlighted ongoing Chinese funded infrastructure projects, including the Kratie Mekong Bridge, expected to open soon and improve connectivity.

China has been a major development partner for Cambodia, coordinating with local authorities to dismantle scam centres, arrest suspects and deport hundreds of Chinese nationals for prosecution.

Both sides have stepped up information exchange on criminal networks and online fraud techniques.

Cambodian leaders have set long term goals of achieving upper middle income status by 2030 and high income status by 2050, with Beijing pledging continued support for economic growth and national defence.
