PHNOM PENH, April 8, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has called on Thailand to urgently resume stalled border negotiations and joint survey work, warning that continued delays risk undermining efforts to resolve outstanding demarcation issues.

In a statement, the Cambodian side of the Joint Border Commission (JBC) said it had repeatedly sent diplomatic notes proposing a special meeting, but these had been postponed as Bangkok finalises the appointment of new JBC members following the formation of its cabinet.

Cambodia’s latest Note Verbale, dated April 7, proposed holding a special JBC meeting between April 17 and 22 in Siem Reap.

Phnom Penh also urged the deployment of Joint Survey Teams to restart demarcation work in areas including O Chrov, Kamrieng, Boeung Trakuon, O Smach, An Seh and Thmor Da, alongside replacing 15 boundary pillars and continuing surveys along river and straight-line segments.

The proposals further include convening technical meetings in early May, notably the 12th Operational Group session and the 5th Joint Technical Sub-Commission.

Reiterating its “firm stance” against what it described as illegal occupation of Cambodian territory by Thai armed forces, Phnom Penh rejected any attempt to alter the boundary by force.

Officials stressed Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining the international boundary under international law, citing the principle of uti possidetis juris and historical Franco-Siamese treaties.

Cambodia remains committed to peaceful resolution through established bilateral mechanisms while safeguarding its territorial integrity.
