Samdech Hun Sen urges outgoing Turkish ambassador to promote Cambodia abroad

PHNOM PENH, April 8, 2026 (KPT) – Acting head of state Samdech Techo Hun Sen has called on Turkey’s outgoing ambassador to continue promoting Cambodia to investors and tourists after completing her diplomatic mission, officials said Tuesday.
During a farewell meeting, Samdech Techo told Ülkü Kocaefe that she should remain an “ambassador” for Cambodia even after returning to Turkey, encouraging businesses to invest in and visit the Southeast Asian nation.
Senate spokesman Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the envoy for her efforts in strengthening bilateral ties, praising initiatives to expand trade, cultural exchanges and air connectivity.
He also expressed gratitude for Turkey’s past humanitarian assistance to Cambodian refugees, particularly during border tensions with Thailand.
Samdech Techo briefed the ambassador on the current border situation, reiterating Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining a ceasefire and resolving disputes peacefully through dialogue.
Kocaefe pledged to remain a lifelong friend of Cambodia, with Samdech Techo Hun Sen describing the relationship between the two countries as one of enduring friendship.
