Cambodia completes submarine power link to Koh Rong Sanloem ahead of New Year

PHNOM PENH, April 13, 2026 (KPT) – Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) has completed a new 35 kV transmission line linking Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem, extending the national grid to offshore communities ahead of the Khmer New Year.
In a statement issued February 10, the utility said the line will begin supplying electricity to Koh Rong Sanloem from April 11, coinciding with the holiday.
EDC said the project will support local infrastructure and households, improving access to reliable power for residents and businesses.
The company also issued a safety advisory to fishermen and travelers in the corridor between Koh Rong Beach and Koh Rong Sanloem, urging them to avoid interference with overhead, underground and submarine cables to prevent accidents.
Officials said the project forms part of broader efforts to expand electricity access to Cambodia’s coastal and island communities, marking a significant step in improving energy reliability and supporting local development.
