PHNOM PENH, April 17, 2026 (KPT) – Fuel prices in Cambodia have fallen again as the government extends tax relief measures to ease living costs, despite persistently high global oil prices, officials said.

A joint statement from the ministries of Economy and Finance, Commerce, and Mines and Energy set new retail prices from April 15 at 5,100 riel ($1.28) per litre for regular gasoline and 6,400 riel ($1.60) for diesel – down 100 riel and 500 riel respectively.

The pricing mechanism reflects regional and international market fluctuations under a formula agreed with fuel companies. To cushion the impact of global prices, the government is maintaining subsidies of 6.5 cents per litre, with an additional one‑cent reduction, while keeping zero import duties.

Taxes have also been cut: the special tax on gasoline reduced from 30% to 15% and eliminated for diesel, while VAT on gasoline has been lowered to 4% and removed for diesel. The government is absorbing part of the burden, covering up to 6% for gasoline and 10% for diesel.

Global prices remain above $90 per barrel for gasoline and over $100 for diesel, but officials say the measures have brought modest relief to consumers and businesses.
