Cambodia, Morocco Sign Parliamentary Cooperation Deal at IPU Assembly in Istanbul

PHNOM PENH, April 17, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Morocco have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, officials said Friday, marking a step toward closer institutional ties between the two legislatures.
The agreement was concluded on April 16 on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Turkey.
The signing took place between Ouch Borith, recently elected first vice president of Cambodia’s Senate, and Sidi Mohamed Ould Errachid, representing Morocco’s parliament.
Officials described the deal as a framework for enhanced dialogue and collaboration on legislative affairs.
Separately, Cambodia’s parliamentary delegation participated in IPU sessions focused on sustainable development and youth participation in politics.
Sam Dara, representing the National Assembly, addressed a Standing Committee meeting on sustainable development, contributing to debate on a draft resolution aimed at building a fairer global economy.
He highlighted the need to reduce protectionism, lower tariffs and tackle corporate tax evasion, stressing that such measures were essential to achieving inclusive growth. The session was chaired by the United Arab Emirates’ parliament.
Later the same day, Sam Dara joined the IPU Forum of Young Parliamentarians, organised with support from Jordan’s parliament.
Discussions centred on increasing youth engagement in legislative processes and ensuring younger voices are incorporated into parliamentary debates at the global level.
Officials said Cambodia’s active participation underscored its commitment to strengthening international parliamentary cooperation while promoting sustainable development and youth leadership.
