Cambodia, Cuba Mark 65 Years of Ties With Phnom Penh Photo Exhibition

PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Cuba have celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations with a photo exhibition in Phnom Penh showcasing decades of cooperation and solidarity, officials said Tuesday.
The event, held April 21 at Chaktomuk Mongkul Hall, was organised by Agence Kampuchea Presse under the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Cuban Embassy.
Around 200 guests attended, including government officials, diplomats and representatives of national and international institutions.
The exhibition featured 31 photographs documenting milestones since ties were established in 1960 under Norodom Sihanouk and Fidel Castro.
Information Minister Neth Pheaktra highlighted Cuba’s support in healthcare and human resource development during Cambodia’s reconstruction, and pointed to growing cooperation in media, cultural promotion and journalist training.

He said both countries were committed to tackling cross border misinformation amid advances in digital technology and artificial intelligence.
Cuban Ambassador Milena Caridad Zaldívar Piedra described the relationship as rooted in shared principles and respect for international law, adding the photographs captured “a legacy of historic friendship and solidarity.”
The exhibition served both as a commemoration of past cooperation and a signal of continued efforts to strengthen ties.
With bilateral relations set to mark their 30th anniversary in 2027, both sides expressed confidence the partnership would deliver lasting benefits in skills, culture and sustainable development.
