Cambodian King’s Health Improving After Beijing Surgery, Palace Says

PHNOM PENH, April 27, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni is recovering steadily in Beijing after undergoing major surgery, the Royal Palace announced Monday, noting gradual improvement in his condition following a week of intensive medical care.
The palace statement said the monarch has been under close supervision from specialist doctors, receiving intravenous fluids, pain relief, wound treatment and regular examinations.
His health has shown “progressive improvement,” though physicians have advised him to remain in hospital for continued monitoring and recovery.
King Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath expressed heartfelt gratitude to Buddhist leaders, government officials and citizens across Cambodia for their prayers and well wishes.
The palace underscored that the monarch’s recovery remains a matter of national concern, with messages of support pouring in from across the country.
Last month, officials disclosed that the King had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and would remain abroad for medical treatment.
Doctors have recommended a hospital stay of one to two months, meaning he will not return to Cambodia in the immediate future.
The palace emphasized that the King’s health is improving under the care of Chinese medical teams, and reassured the public that he continues to receive the best possible treatment.
